1. What are the library's hours?
Normal semester library hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:00 am-7:45 pm; Friday 8:00 am-3:45 pm; and Saturday 8:30 am-3:45 pm.

Hours between sessions are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am-3:45 pm. Closed weekends.

Summer hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:00 am-7:45 pm, Friday, 8:00 am-3:45 pm, with "core" hours and early closures to be announced. Closed weekends

Special hours for holidays and college breaks will be posted on library doors and on the library blog.

2. How do I get research assistance?
College librarians are available to help you find the information you need for papers, research, or class. They have designated reference desk hours when anyone is free to ask them questions. You may also make an appointment via phone, email, or in person. College librarians are Lisa Abrazo and Craig Larson.

3. Is there quiet space in the library? Study rooms?
There are designated quiet study carrels available for students. Study rooms are available for groups of two or more. The rooms are equipped with audio/visual equipment. There is a two hour limit for study rooms and are available on a first come first serve basis. Study rooms are checked out at the circulation desk at the front of the library. Food and drink is not allowed. 

4. Does the library carry textbooks for my classes?
The library DOES NOT CARRY CURRENT TEXTBOOKS for classes. You may be able to find additional books through other libraries in the catalog and retrieve them through an interlibrary loan. Textbook purchases can be made through the college bookstore or online.

5. What is "interlibrary loan" (ILL)?
If the NHCC library does not have a particular book, it may be found at another library. An Interlibrary loan is a service wherein one library can borrow books or receive photocopies of documents that are owned by another library. The user makes a request with their local library (acting as an intermediary), identifies owners of the desired item, places the request, receives the item, makes it available to the user, and arranges for its return. 
6. NHCC's library doesn't have my book, but I see it at another institution. How do I get a copy?
You can sign into the catalog using your StarID and password. Click on One Search and then using the drop down box, select “All MnPals libraries” and enter your title. When you locate your title select it and then choose “Interlibrary Loan/Resource Sharing” and then “send request”. You will be notified via email when your book is ready to be picked up. All interlibrary loans can be retrieved at the circulation desk. Community patrons are not able to request ILL books.

7. How do I find a book?
On the main library page, there is a button labeled “ONE SEARCH.” This will bring you to the catalog page. If you need assistance searching the catalog, review a short tutorial here. You may also contact a college librarian for assistance. Their contact information can be found on the library main page.

8. How do I check out a book?
Once you have selected your materials, you will need to bring them to the circulation desk. A student ID is required to check out any library materials.

9. How do I renew a book?
The book being renewed does not need to be with you to renew it. You may call the library circulation desk at 763-424-0732, or stop in and ask to have it renewed. We will need your full name to process this request.

10. How many times may I renew a book?
You may renew materials two times before its return is required.

11. Does the library have computers, printer (color), scanner, or copier?
The library has computers for general use, but does not have Microsoft Office. There is a printer, but no scanner. The nearest scanner is in the Center for Business and Technology computer lab. There is a print card machine located near the circulation desk. The printer does take change, one dollar bills, or old five dollar bills.

12. How do I get help with my account?
If you having difficulty logging into your account or issues with printing, please contact the IT help desk at 763-424-0957.

13. I have library fines on my account. How do I lift them?
If you are being charged for the cost of the materials that are overdue, you may bring them in to be returned and you will only be charged $5 per late item. If you lost the items, you will be charged for their replacement. THE FINE NEEDS TO BE PAID AT  ACCOUNTING AND FEES IN THE EDUCATIONAL SERVICES BUILDING. The payment receipt will then need to be returned to the library, so your fine can be lifted.

14. How many books can I check out at one time?
Students and community patrons may have up to 10 books checked out at any point in time. 

15. Does the library carry DVDs?
The library has a collection of DVDs and VHS tapes. They may be checked out, but are only available to view in the library. 

16. How are books in the library organized? 
The books are arranged in accordance to the Library of Congress Classification System. You may find a  quick tutorial here.

17. My professor put a book on hold for my class. Where do I find it?
When a professor puts a book on hold for a class, it is called a "course reserve." These books can be requested at the circulation desk. There is a two hour limit for usage, and books or other course reserve items may NOT leave the library.
