Hunger Free Campus

North Hennepin Community College (NHCC) has been designated as a Hunger Free Campus by LeadMN, an organization that represents the 180,000 two-year college students to help transform their lives and communities. A Hunger Free Campus is a Minnesota State community and/or technical college that is actively taking strides to reduce food insecurity among students and must meet the following minimum criteria:

  • Has a food pantry, partnership with a food bank, or some type of food distribution system on campus available to students.
  • Has a designated staff person on campus to educate students on SNAP and other public services aimed to reduce food insecurity. The institution shall notify students in work-study employment of their potential eligibility for SNAP benefits and provide information to those students that includes eligibility criteria and how to apply for benefits.
  • Provides emergency funds to assist students who may be experiencing basic needs insecurity.
  • Has a taskforce dedicated to addressing food insecurity concerns.
  • Hosts or participates in at least one hunger awareness event each year.

Food Cupboard Open to All NHCC Students

The food cupboard is open to all NHCC students, including students enrolled in our University Center. We offer pre-packaged food and hygiene bags for pick up. Students can pick up individual-sized bags (10 items), family-size (15 items), and men’s and women’s hygiene bags. Baby items and other items are also available by special request. If students have special requests or cannot come to campus to pick the items up, please email foodcupboard@nhcc.edu for assistance.
